A handful of rice for the poor

Fidyah is a fine imposed on a Muslim who has reached puberty for doing something that involves violating the laws of fasting, hajj and related matters. If it involves the laws of fasting, fidyah is imposed for leaving the obligatory fast for certain reasons or intentionally missing the make-up fast (qada) of the month of Ramadan.

The law of paying fidyah is obligatory. It will be fulfilled according to the number of days left. It also becomes a liability (debt) to Allah SWT if it is not carried out. The word of Allah SWT which means

Meaning: (The obligatory fast is a certain number of days; so whoever among you is sick or on a journey, (may break his fast), then he must fast the same number of days on other days; and it is obligatory upon those who are unable to fast (due to old age and so on) to pay a ransom, which is to feed a poor person.” – (Surah al-Baqarah, verse 148)

So whoever gives (the ransom) more than that, it is good for him; and (even so) fasting is better for you than giving ransom, if you only knew.

Based on this verse of the Quran, it is very clear that every Muslim who has missed the Ramadan fast, intentionally or unintentionally, must make up for their fast. However, for those who did not have time to make up for their fast, they are obliged to pay a fidyah.

Individuals who wish to carry out fidyah can pay through the Account (Yayasan Ammirul Ummah) and this contribution will be channeled directly to the asnaf and those in need.

May Allah forgive our past sins & accept all our good deeds. Thank you & Jazakumullah.
